We had a great weekend of Electrathon racing in Lee County at Buckingham Field thanks to Jen and her group at Lee County Parks and Recreation.

Saturday morning teams arrived and were ready to race. Teams from as far away as Milton and Hialeah Florida joined us.

Our first race on Saturday went very well. The second race, teams stepped up their pace and challenged each other until the checkered flag dropped. 

The Archer , Mulberry and Tiger teams kept it interesting, passing one another throughout the race. The Tiger team got everyone’s attention on the straight away when they kicked up the speed and left others in their mirrors on more than one occasion. Tiger Racing Driver Rodney Schreck stated that he was going over 40mph.

At the end of the day in the Open Division Archer Racing, Driver Steve Archer completed 29 laps in the first race and 30 laps the second race for a 1st place finish with a  117.557 best lap of for the day. Mulberry, Driver Todd Thuma completed 23 laps the first race and 23 laps the second race for a 2nd Place finish with a best lap of 114.141 for the day. Titans Racing, Driver Ryan Norden completed 17 laps the first race and 17 laps the second race for a 3rd Place finish with a best lap of 155.308 for the day. In our Advanced Division it was Tiger Racing, Driver Rodney Schreck completing 13 laps the first race and 24 laps the second race for a 1st Place finish with a best lap of 14.929 for the day. Our teams did not beat the track record of 34 laps in a single race, 65 laps for the two race lap total and best lap of 99.298 set by Pro EV Driver Cliff Rassweiler in November 2019.

On December 5th and 6th we will hold our very first ever, two days of Electrathon Racing at Buckingham Field in Lee High Acres. We thank all of the individuals in Lee County that has made this event possible.

Friday, November 6. 2020, Plant City High School Electrathon Sponsor David Kocher met with Trish, Mike, Rodney and Charlie to set up the course for Saturdays race.The weather was great and there was a little wind. The course measured out to be 1198 feet in distance and only took just over an hour to get set up.

On Saturday morning the final set up was done and the race day began. The winds were stronger causing a challenge for our canopies the entire day.

We thank PCHS Sponsor (David), PCHS Electrathon Team members and all of PCHS Administration for hosting our event.

We missed our teams that were not at the race, (Archer, Brandon, Brooks DeBartolo, Electrocutioners, IWMF, Lennard, Middleton, Palm Bay, Parrish, Plant, Pro EV, Seminole, Simmons, USF, sorry if I left anyone out)

We have a new team, Fortuna (Victoria Hobbs) join the Advanced Battery DivisionAs our Race Steward (Mike Frederick) lined up the cars for the first race, the new team had some electrical issues forcing them to return to the pit area. As the green flag dropped the cars took off for the challenging course with a few sharp turns and a nice straight away.

Team Fortuna worked out their electrical issue and on the track they went. In the first race team Fortuna continued to have issues flare up, normal for a new team on the track. Team Mulberry (driver and sponsor Todd Thuma) blew a tire and had to pit towards the end of the race. The Hillsborough Community College, PCHS and Titan teams ran strong during the race and look impressive. At the end of the first race Plant City High School came in 1^st in the High School Division with 79 completed laps, Silver Bullet (Jim Robinson) came in 1^st in the Open Division with 85 completed laps and Fortuna (Victoria Hobbs) came in 1st in the Advanced Battery Division with 25 completed laps. Once the electrical issue is figured out, this team will be one to watch.

Our second race lined up and as the green flag dropped we were missing the new team Fortuna, electrical issues continued to challenge their team keeping them in and out of the pits and completing only 9 laps for the entire race. Once again Team Titans (with a PCHS student driver) ran strong and the car did really well. As the PCHS car took the far turn the front wheel decide to pop some spokes and tire sending them into the barrier and done for the day after completing 2 laps. Tiger Racing (Rodney Schreck) had one of his new batteries fail causing him to take it slow and easy so he could finish the race with 66 laps. Mulberry (Todd Thuma) blew another tire and was done for the race day after 66 laps. Silver Bullet (Jim Robinson) had some chain issues sending him to the pit area after 28 laps. This is unusual for him as he normally runs the entire race without any issues. HCC ran well completing 34 laps before their transponder decided to slide back on the roll bar causing us to hand count the last 14 laps of the race. We congratulate the HCC team as they have come a long way with their car. When the second race ended it was team Titans that completed 77 laps for a 1^st place finish in the Open Division. High school and Advanced Battery Division cars did not race competitively for a total of 10 minutes during the second race causing them not to receive season points or credit for their laps completed.

At the end of the day, Plant City (High School Division) finished in 1^st Place with 79 laps, Fortuna (Advanced Battery Division) finished in 1^st Place, with 25 laps. In the Open Division, Titans finished in 1^st Place with 158 laps Tiger Racing 2^nd Place with 146 laps Mulberry 3^rd Place with 132 laps Silver Bullet 4^th Place with 113 laps HCC in 5^th Place with 97 laps Our next race will be held on December 5^th and 6^th at Buckingham Field in Lee County. This will be our first two day event with two races being held each day. Trophies will be given out for each day of racing.

The 2nd Annual Lee County Electrathon Race is scheduled for December 5th and 6th, 2020 at Lee County Mosquito Control/Buckingham Field located at 15191 Homestead Road, Lehigh Acres, Florida 33971.

The entrance to the event will only be through Park Road Gate. This track is just over one mile long on an airstrip. This two day even will have a total of four races, two each day. The track will change after the first day so drivers have a little more of a challenge. 

Our Organization for Electrathon and Electric Car Clubs has teamed up with a local non-profit, Lee County Sports Housing, to offer discounted hotel accommodations for this event.

Electrathon of Tampa Bay/Electrathon of Florida held the second event of the 2020-2021 race season on October 3, 2020 at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) in Brandon Florida.

We thank Hillsborough Community College Administration and Electrathon Team for hosting our second race of the season, without you we would not have had another great day of STEM competition.

Our Race Steward required a picture of all the drivers showing up prior to/on time for the drivers meeting, he believes that is a first in the history of our organization.

During the first race the HCC team struggled with their older batteries that seem to keep them from performing to their cars ability. Team USF had a few spokes on their wheel motor let go during the first race causing them to hit the pits for some repairs

Race 1 leaders in each division were:

Plant City High School car 210 with 87 completed laps

Tiger Racing car 4 with 102 completed laps in the open division

USF car 48 with 63 completed laps in the advanced battery division

The second race of the day went well for most teams, HCC continued to have battery issues, Silver Bullet had throttle issues in the first few laps of the race, and USF made it through the entire race with more spoke issues that gave the driver a bumpy ride for quite a few laps.

In December, Electrathon of Tampa Bay/Electrathon of Florida will hold our two day race event (December 5 and 6) in Lee County at the Buckingham Field (airstrip). This course is just over 1 mile long and will be a great event for teams from all over the United States to attend. 

On October 3, 2020, Electrathon of Tampa Bay/Electrathon of Florida  will hold the second race of the 2020 – 2021 season. The host will be Hillsborough Community College located at 10451 Nancy Watkins Drive, Tampa, Florida 33619.

Health and safety guidelines have been implemented and posted on this website and on our two Facebook pages.

Set up will begin on Friday around 530 p.m. so that safety barriers are in place for the track and course design completed. Final set up of the scoring system and registration area will start at 630 a.m. on Saturday morning.

All parent consent and minor waivers must be turned in at the registration booth when you sign in. Team Sponsors cannot sign these forms for participation.

All drivers will weigh in and must have their long sleeve shirt, long pants, helmet, shoes, gloves, eye protection and required ballast for weigh in so that they are a minimum of 180lbs.

All Advanced Battery Division teams will be required to show manufacturer’s specs for the weight of the batteries to comply with Electrathon America and ETO rules for advanced batteries. If a team does not have their manufacturer’s specs sheet, the batteries will need to be weighed at the race.

Only team driver’ will be required to attend the Driver Meeting with the Race Steward for information on driving, flags and safety protocols.

The first race lineup is 9:45 A.M. and the green flag will drop to start the race and race season at 10:00 A.M.

The second race lineup is 12:45 P.M. and the green flag will drop to start the race at 1:00 P.M.

Clean up and awards will follow. Hope everyone has their cars ready to go and remember to do all of your safety checks and be knowledgeable and understand the Electrathon America Rules and Guidelines for the car, driver(s) and teams.

Electrathon of Tampa Bay/Electrathon of Florida held the first event of the 2020-2021 race season on September 19, 2020 at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) in Brandon Florida.

We thank Hillsborough Community College Administration and Electrathon Team for hosting our first race of the season, without you we would not have had a great day of STEM competition.

When we arrived it was a humid Florida morning filled with excitement and anticipation as this was the first time since March that our teams had the opportunity to use their STEM skills and training on the track.

Signs were posted at each entrance reminding everyone of the social distancing guidelines and mask requirements. This event was limited to just the participants and event coordinators due to our trying times.

There were seven teams that made the event. Our new team from Plant City High School with Sponsor David Kocher had their loaner car (donated to ETO from Electrocutioners Team) ready to hit the track.

Mulberry High School could not have students attend so the Team Sponsor Todd Thuma came out and drove in the Open Division. It was great seeing the HCC and the USF College Teams. Tiger Racing, Silver Bullet and Titans came out and were ready for the challenge.

We were able to give our 2019-2020 Season Awards to those in attendance since our last races were cancelled because of Covid-19. Congratulations to all award winners.

As teams were starting to line up for the first race, the HCC Team was finishing up their tire pressure check and something went wrong, a tire rated for over 100psi decided 80psi was enough and blew the tube. Needless to say it was their motor wheel which delayed them getting onto the track.

Ryan Norden (Race Steward) dropped the green flag for the first race, Brady Weber with Team Titans gave it full throttle and took off screaming his tire. At one point he had to pull into the pit area, while turning up the volume on his phone, he dialed 911 and had to let them know it was an oops. At the end of the first race Silver Bullet was beating Mulberry in the Open Division by only one lap. Tiger Racing had an issue with one of their batteries and had to take it easy to complete the entire one hour race. Our new Plant City HS Team completed 85 laps and USF in the Advanced Battery Division completed 76 laps.

Between races, teams practiced social distancing wore masks as they made adjustments to their cars for the second race. As teams lined up for the second race all seven made it to the lineup. Team Titans had issues with their chain and finally threw in the towel after the master link and chain were left on the track. Mulberry was running great until the chain issues transferred from Team Titans to the Mulberry car. HCC was running great until the left front tire went flat, once it was changed they ran well until the same tire went flat just before the end of the race.

The final results for the day:

Plant City HS car 210 1^st race 85 laps, 2^nd race 84 laps for a 1^st Place finish with 169 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 31.134.

USF car 48 1^st race 76 laps, 2^nd race 105 laps for a 1^st Place finish with 181 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 26.647.

Silver Bullet Racing (Jim Robinson) 1^st race 103 laps, 2^nd race 103 laps for a 1^st Place finish with 206 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 30.454.

Tiger Racing (Rodney Schreck) 1^st race 97 laps, 2^nd race 100 laps for a 2^nd Place finish with 197 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 31.613.

Mulberry car 38 (Todd Thuma) 1^st race 102 laps, 2^nd race 93 laps for a 3^rd Place finish with 195 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 31.700.

Titans car 242 (Brady Weber) 1^st race 85 laps, 2^nd race 15 laps for a 4^th Place finish with 100 laps for the day. The team’s best lap 29.834.

HCC car 30 1^st race, they were in pits with tire issues, 2^nd race 49 laps for a 5^th Place finish with 49 laps for the day. The team’s best lap was 40.052.
