January 11, 2025, Cold Weather Race in Jacksonville Florida
On Saturday, January 11th Florida State College at Jacksonville held their STEM Electrathon Event at the Cecil Field Campus.
It started out as a cool/damp morning. The winds created a challenge for teams and their canopies. The sun could have made the day a little warmer, but it decided not to attend the race.
Florida State College thanks Electrathon of Tampa Bay/Florida members, Charlie, Debbie, Trish and Mike for their continued support to get an Electrathon Group started in Jacksonville.
Florida State College thanks Andrew Cardy (cfmedia.net), for pictures, Cliff Rassweiler for videos, and anyone else that submitted photos for this event.
The teams arrived, got their pit areas set up and got their cars ready for Mike to conduct their car(s) inspection.
We missed the teams from Georgia that could not attend because of weather conditions that cancelled their permission to travel.
Teams met with race officials for the drivers meeting.
We had eight cars line up for the first race of the day.
The green flag dropped, and teams found their path on the course. A few teams had issues with their cars but overall, the race went well.
When Dr Doug Brauer, Dean of Engineering and Industry dropped the checkered flag, ending the first race, it was:
High School
1st Place Northview car 42 with 43 laps
2nd Place Nease car 550 with 34 laps
3rd Place Fairhope car 1 with 30 laps
4th Place Fairhope car 251 with 23 laps
Open
1st Place Electrathon Parts car 654 with 53 laps
2nd Place Florida State College/Jacksonville car 904 with 44 laps
Advanced
1st Place Pro EV car 39 with 34 laps
2nd Place Florida State College/Jacksonville car 32 with 32 laps
Teams made some adjustments to their cars between races, got their body temperatures warmer and had lunch.
We had seven cars line up for the second race.
Nease HS had a wheel bearing issue that prevented them from being in the second race.
The teams did very well; we did have a few issues and even had a spin out when Pro EV had their rear wheel lock up.
When the checkered flag dropped it was:
High School
1st Place Northview car 42 with 46 laps
2nd Place Fairhope car 1 with 39 laps
3rd Place Fairhope car 251 with 24 laps (only 1 lap difference from first race, consistent performance of car and driver)
Open
1st Place Electrathon Parts car 654 with 54 laps (only 1 lap difference from first race, consistent performance of car and driver)
2nd Place Florida State College/Jacksonville car 904 with 44 laps (exact number of laps as first race, consistent performance of car and driver)
Advanced
1st Place Florida State College/Jacksonville car 32 with 39 laps
2nd Place Pro EV car 39 with 39 laps
To find the overall winner for the race day, we add the laps from each race together.
